Some of the earliest chronicles, the stories of the Arcana document the early parts of the conflict between humanity and the jit'suku empire. They also delve into the first forays made by human geneticists to breed super soldiers, and the men who volunteered to become Enhanced on a cellular level. These special men helped safeguard humanity in those early skirmishes on the galactic rim at great sacrifice to themselves. These are the tales of their bravery and the women they loved.

The stories of the Sons of Amber take place after the deadly jit'suku bio-weapon killed off almost all human males. If the jits figured the women left behind would be pushovers, they have another think coming. As in conflicts past, human women rose to the challenge, manning the fleet and repulsing the jit'suku warriors and the pirates who come after.

One woman in particular -- Dr. Amber Waithe -- provided an ingenious solution to the shortage of males. She and her team of geneticists bred a group of males that were impervious to the jit virus. They are strong, handsome, and talented in various ways. Some are Dominants, born to lead. Some are Riskers, with computer-like minds that calculate the odds of their audacious actions. Some are Pioneers, willing to seek the frontiers of human capability and there are Moderates as well, who excel as soldiers and planners. They are the cornerstone of the new society, rock solid and strong. All the Sons breed true and their progeny will help repopulate the human worlds and restore the balance between male and female in about five generations.

But nobody expects the Sons of Amber to start falling in love.
