CAPA Blogging Today & Paranormal Update
March 17, 2008 on 8:00 am | In Dragon Knights, Paranormal Tales, Awards, Web | No Comments
I’m blogging today over at The Romance Studio Blog about my recebt CAPA win. Prince of Spies surprised the heck out of me by winning my very first CAPA. Many thanks to The Romance Studio!
WEBSITE UPDATE:
Since I get asked about those first three vamp stories A LOT - I just updated the paranormal index page on my website with an “Author’s Note” that attempts to explain what’s come before, what’s happening now, and what I hope will happen in the future with this series. I’ve also added a little chart that attempts to explain the internal chronology of the series, though they’ve been written so that each can be read on its own.

New Section on Website
March 7, 2008 on 7:13 am | In Web | No Comments
I’m in the process of adding a new section to my website for the first contemporary (non-paranormal) that I just delivered to Tease Publishing. Right now, you can access it from anywhere on the “main” site - the parts that have the castle entry header graphic. I’ll eventaully get links in there from the other sections of the site (paranormal, sci fi, dragon), but that might take some time.
There’s not a whole lot of details available yet for my Tease title, but I’ll be adding to the site as information comes in, so keep an eye on that new section of the site. You can access it directly at: http://contemporary.biancadarc.com/
Website Changes: Splash Pages
March 4, 2008 on 6:00 am | In Web, SF/Futuristic | No CommentsI’ve been tinkering again… I adjusted parts of the FutureWorlds section of my website to create better ”splash” pages for both Hara’s Legacy and the new Sons of Amber print book. I use these kinds of pages for targets of some of my online ads, so that if a person sees one of my ads and clicks on it, they get a quick, encapsulated page that will give them other things to click into and explore, if they so desire. I’ve been working on this for a while, but just made these new versions “live” this past weekend. You can see them here:
Sons of Amber Splash (doesn’t have buy links yet because the book isn’t out yet)
It took me a while to realize I needed something like this, so I’m passing along the idea here for other authors or web designers who might not have thought of it yet. If you’re doing web-based ads, I think it’s a pretty good idea to have them hit a target that’s a little less complicated than your regular website homepage - particularly if you’re advertising a specific book. Feel free to ask questions and let me know what you think!
Long Time, No Write
November 17, 2007 on 11:04 am | In Web | No CommentsIt’s been longer than I like between blog posts for two main reasons… first, I caught a little bug that had me living on the couch for a few days. Luckily that’s over now. Thank God! Also, I’ve been deep in edits with my December release. Doing edits is tedious work and a necessary evil of the business, but I still like to gripe about them. lol.
With the loss of Chippewa/Lady Aibell, I’ve also had to do a little retuning of my website. It’s an ongoing process, but I’ve made a start in between editing. (I find it’s easier to keep my focus if I put down the edits every few hours to do something completely different, then come back with a fresh outlook.) You might notice I’ve changed the header graphics on the Home section of my website to eliminate the Military Men link, because that series has no home now. I’ve also done a little reorganization on the Paranormal section to eliminate the first three vampire stories and get rid of some of the extra pages that were proving cumbersome. I want to make the site sleeker and easier to navigate, so I’ll probably be doing some alteration to the FutureWorlds section next… but maybe not until I get over this upcoming release. It just depends on whether or not I can find the time.
The only page I haven’t updated yet (that I’m aware of) is the Books page. I figured I would put that up in a week or two, when Sweeter Than Wine comes out. We’ll see. I might do it sooner, if I can get everything arranged. In the meantime, just about everything else in the Home section of the site has been updated to the new, darker castle entrance graphic. I hope you’ll let me know if there are any spots I missed or links that don’t work.
I should be finishing my latest round of edits tonight, so after that, I hope to write some new material and get back on track - at least for a few days until proofing starts - with my writing challenges. It’s been a rough writing November so far!
More Website Graphical Madness
August 4, 2007 on 9:11 am | In Paranormal Tales, Admin News, Web | 2 CommentsAfter a lot of trial and error (mostly error), I’ve changed the graphics on the paranormal section of my website to be more like the new graphics I installed a week or two ago on both the Dragon Knights section and the FutureWorlds section. Basically there’s less header (only 200 pixels tall) and more graphical links within the header to cut down on space usage at the tops of all the pages.
I tried 4 or 5 different designs for this and settled on the least objectionable one. I’m not entirely satisfied with it art-wise, but then, I never am. LOL. It’s good for now and if I manage to create some art that I like better, it’ll most likely be changing again. I’m funny that way.
The new header is a combination of two 3d renders I did recently. The left side is sort of vampy with a couple in a gothic cathedral-like setting, complete with dark stained glass windows. The right side is a girl holding a magical ball of light in her hand, surrounded by werecreatures in a forest. I wanted something that would work for all my paranormal tales so I could use one header throughout the section instead of the 5 different headers I had before. I think this works, for the most part, but I’d love to hear what you all think! Go on over and take a look at the new art, and let me know your opinion, okay?
Dragon Knights Website Update
July 28, 2007 on 11:28 am | In Dragon Knights, Web | No CommentsDid a little housecleaning this past week and created some new graphics and a new look for the Dragon Knights portion of my website. Take a look and let me know what you think! (And as always, if there are any broken links or anything that doesn’t work or look right, please let me know.) http://dragonknights.biancadarc.com/
Oh, and I created a new wallpaper based on part of the new header design, so feel free to snag it if you want a fresh look for your desktop!
To use, click on the size you want, then right click and set as background. Enjoy!
