Can I share my newest reading glom with you? It’s not a particular author, but another romance sub-genre that I find I really enjoy. I haven’t been this “glommy”" since I first discovered the non-demonic side of paranormal romance. Vampires could suck blood, but they didn’t have to kill people. How cool was that? But I digress. This is about my most recent joi d’ pour lire experience. It’s gay romance.I would never have stumbled across this subgenre if I hadn’t first become a huge fan of eBooks. So many authors, so little time - how true that is. In the three years since I started really reading eBooks, I’ve bought and read hundreds and hundreds of titles on top of my already busy print reading schedule. And a big chunk of those electronic books have been gay romance lately. Authors like JJ Massa, Sean Michael, Stephanie Vaughan, JL Langley and Vic Winter have become as strong an auto-buy for me as Jayne Ann Krentz and Christine Feehan.
So, it should come as no surprise that I have incorporated a few gay characters into my most recent book DEAL WITH THIS. I’ve got to admit that Jillian’s flamboyant, pink-haired boarder and show’s co-star, Gavin, stole my heart and came close to stealing the story. It’s a good thing I was so eager to write Jillian and Alan’s romance, or it would have happened.
What is so compelling about gay romance that it’s become a permanent and significant part of my reading life? I think it’s the purity of the romance, the intense emotions and yes…the fact there are two heroes is nothing but a bonus, you know?
So, do you read gay romance and if you do…who are your favorite authors?
I love to give away prizes, so I’ll be drawing a name from the comments on this blog to receive a hardback edition of WILLING and signed cover flat of my brand new release, DEAL WITH THIS.
Hugs, Lucy

Hi Lucy,
I’m sure I’ll be reading more from different writers.(I’ll have to look for Vic Winter!)
I’ve just started reading gay romance myself. I stumbled across it just recently and have found myself getting very much into the stories and the characters. I’ve read Stephanie Vaughan, JJ Massa, and JM Snyder. Not sure yet if I have a favorite writer as I’m just getting into to the genre. But as I’m such a voracious reader(and not too particular on what I read as long as I’m reading!!
Oh, and what a yummy cover for Deal With This!!! Yowwwwwwzzzzer!!!

Greetings Lucy,
Although I didn’t think I would enjoy that sub-genre, the fact is that I have found some authors could really make the story appealing to me as a reader. JJ Massa was the author whose work introduced me to it and I continue to look for more of her books.

I have only read one gay romance to date. I read, Angel’s evolution by T.A.Chase. I loved it. I didn’t know what I would think of it at first. like you said though, the purity of the romance, is what kept me reading. I really enjoyed this book, the journey of the hero was wonderful.
I am one of the horrible people that judges a book by its cover (most of the time) so even though I haven’t read any of your books to date… after looking at your cover *gasp* I would love to read it. *grin*

I only started with ebooks this July but I soon discovered Jules Jones’ Dolphin Dreams when I was searching for shapeshifter stories. Then I discovered Nut Cream By Jade Buchanan and The Edge by JJ Massa. I would never have thought I would enjoy gay romance, but it was romance and many of the stories are beautiful.

I haven’t tried any gay romances yet. It’s true that they’re easier to find with the popularity of ebooks. I think JM Synder writes gay romance.

Good morning Ms. Monroe! Loved your blog comments. Like you, I discovered gay romance as a direct result of my ebook reading. I’ve enjoyed the stories written by the authors you mentioned for a while now. I’d like to mention a few others whose work takes my breath away: Jet Mykles (her Heaven Sent boys are amazing, as well as the rest of her writing); Jade Buchanan (her Felidae series is awesome; and don’t miss her book NUT CREAM); Lacey Savage has a great series from Changeling; J. L. Langley (so many good stories); Willa Okati (Brotherhood series); Allie Blue; J M Snyder is wonderful; Anne Cain & Barbara Sheridan (together and separately); and, well, I could keep on listing but don’t want to take all the room here. *G*
DEAL WITH THIS sounds terrific and I’ll have to pick up a copy when I go to the bookstore. Thanks for a great post!! And, good luck to all the commenters regarding the contest!

Hi Lucy! I’ve actually read some of your work which I think is great. As for gay romance, if the cover is hot and it has a great blurb, I will give it a try. I’ve read a few and havent been disappointed yet. To me its romance and romance is my fave!

Happy Holidays

Hi Lucy! I’ve never read a gay romance but have read stories where there was a secondary romance with gay characters. I don’t know if I would like it being the main story but you never know.

Hey, all
It’s great to hear that some of you enjoy my books (that is always, always, ALWAYS music to my heart) and others may give my stories a try.
The thing about any subgenre is that it’s not for everyone. What I love about the romance genre as a whole though is the empowerment toward happiness each story gives regardless of its trappings.
I guess that’s one of my themes. Funny how things become obvious after the fact, you know? But I can look at Deal With This and see how Jillian isn’t simply a character I fell in love with and hope that readers do to, but that she’s a heroich archetype - the woman who is accepting and happy with her own sexuality.
That kind of empowerment is a strong theme in most of the gay romance I’ve read. And I think that’s probably one of the reasons I’ve enjoyed them so much. I absolutely love seeing characters overcome the odds and grasp joy and not let go.

Hi Lucy!
Isn’t it fun to find a new genre to glom? Like you, I’ve recently started reading gay romance and love it. It is easier to find now because of the proliferation of e-book publishers, but one that I’ve loved in print is Suzanne Brockmann’s gay romance thread that weaves through several of her books. I’ve been a huge Jules fan from the very beginning, and watching him find his HEA has been enormously satisfying.
And of course, I adore Gavin and just know your readers will love him, too.

I’m SO happy to have Lucy here on the blog today! And it’s a great topic. Like Kate, I’ve enjoyed reading Suzanne Brockmann’s “Jules” character for years. I even tried to write a m/m story once, but it was way harder than it might seem and I doubt I’ll ever try to write another. I’ll leave that to the experts.
So, welcome Lucy! Thanks for blogging here today and I wish you much continued success with your new release!

I Love Lucy’s books! Deal With This sounds like another great read. As to gay romance, I have read a few. Really enjoyed Suzanne Brockmann’s books and look forward to reading more.

I read M/M and enjoy it a lot. I discovered it about a year ago when I decided to try out an ebook by Willa Okati.
My favorite authors are the same as yours, plus Willa Okati, Jade Buchanan and Laura Baumbach.
I think the appeal is getting into the heads of the men, along with the exoticness of it for heterosexual women.
The most recent Lucy Monroe story I read was Come Moonrise in the Unleashed anthology and I thought it was the star of the book. The way you made us feel the characters’ emotions was amazing.

I definitely have to read those books by Suz…they’re on my TBR list, but it’s soooo long. LOL
Bianca…I so want to write a m/m story - I’ve got some really good ones in my head, but contracts and time restrictions make it impossible. I’m *still* trying to find the time to write the next Children of the Moon book. Sigh…
Smooches to you wonderful gals for reading and enjoying my work!!! I’m feeling very perked up today. LOL
Comment by Lucy Monroe — November 28, 2007 #
I enjoy your books as much as I enjoy reading the m/m genre! Some of my favorites are JJ Massa, Marty Rayne, Willa Okati just to name a few!
There a bunch of m/f wruters now dipping their imaginations in the m/m as well as m/m/f ink as well, if you want to go there I say go for it! Even if it another pan name or as yourself! A short story to get it out there maybe what you need to satisfy the urge?!

Hi Lucy, I am in the process of reading Deal With This and I am loving it. Gavin is a hoot. I have never read a gay romance.

Oh, Amy…I’m glad you think so. I just loved him too.
Thanks, Stephanie and again *everyone* for your super kind words. What a great day!

Hi Lucy, great post and yummy cover.
What’s not to love about two heroes
I started to read gay romance when I was a book reviewer, and I still read from some
I usually get my m/m fix from Loose Id. LOL
I’ll have to give your book a try

I’ve read some gay romance from Evangeline Anderson, Emma Holly and Morgan Hawke, all of whom did it very well! I think the trick of it for me is that I have to find at least one of the men involved in the romance attractive, even if he is gay.
I still prefer heterosexual romances overall, but I am not averse to gay romance when the story is good.

Hi Lucy….
I haven’t read your latest yet but have read the most of your previous books….LOVED THEM! To my surprise, I find that m/m books are great to read. It may just be a phase but right now I seem to be reading quite a bit of them…
