TT: Worst Songs for Romantic Interludes
July 26, 2007 on 8:53 am | In MeMe's | 7 Comments![]() |
I’m borrowing this idea from a short list on EW.com and expanding it a bit. The first 5 are from the original post from EW.com. The rest are my contributions. Feel free to add your suggestions in the comments! “1. Mr. Roboto by Styx - The only thing robots put me in the mood for is break dancing. Plus, who wants a ménage à trois with Kilroy? 2. I Drink Alone by George Thorogood - Nothing spells romance more than an ode to solitary boozing in which the main object of affection is Jim Beam. 3. Anything by Weird Al Yankovic - Go ahead, you try being intimate to the sweet sounds of My Bologna. There’s nothing funny about that. 4. I Ran by A Flock of Seagulls - Good song, but you know in the heat of passion you’re gonna think about that dude’s wacky hairstyle. Too distracting. 5. Ninja Rap by Vanilla Ice - It’s Vanilla Ice rapping about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Is any further explanation really necessary?” 6. I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On by Robert Palmer - Good song, but the wrong message, ya know? 7. You’re Cheatin’ Heart by Hank Williams - unless you revel in being a two-faced, lying, cheating, scum bag and are doing it with your ho secretary while your wife is stuck home with the kids. 8. Independence Day by Martina McBride - “Roll the stone away, let the guilty pay, it’s Independence day.” Always sounded to me like she had revenge on her mind. Guys - watch out if your woman puts this song on the stereo when she’s getting romantic. She just might have something more violent on her mind. Remember Loreena Bobbitt? 9. Anything by Boy George or Cyndi Lauper - Weren’t they the same person? I mean, they had the same fashion sense. If I hear “I Tumble For Ya” or “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” I picture nearly the same hairstyle and clothing on a somewhat androgynous form. Not sexy at all and kinda creepy. Definitely kills the mood. 10. Anything by Michael Jackson - after watching the freak show of a court trial and hearing about all the wacky goings-on at Neverland, I’ll never hear one of his songs the same way again. And can you even IMAGINE him and Elvis-ette getting it on? Now THERE’s a freak show! 11. I Get Around by the Beach Boys - Ever heard of AIDS? Damn, boy! If you “get around” I don’t want to get around you! 12. The Chicken Dance - you know that stupid thing they make you do at wedding receptions? Not romantic at all. 13. The Hallelujah Chorus - well, not unless your partner’s REALLY good. |

I Could Cry
July 21, 2007 on 6:24 pm | In Admin News | 2 CommentsYes, it’s true. Blogger ate my blog. A year or two of blogging is now lost. I’d decided to stick with Blogger a few months back when they did the upgrade because it allowed me more freedom to customize and I figured it was pretty safe to keep my blog there, considering spammers and storage issues, etc. Well, I guess I was wrong.
So I’m starting all over. Please bear with me while I learn how to work this WordPress thing. I’ll have to re-input all my customizations and figure out just how to do it, so chances are this blog will look a little ragged for a while until I figure out what I’m doing. (If there’s anyone out there who can offer advice on how to work WordPress features like how to save posts in advance of actually posting them, and how to add graphics into the sidebar, please let me know!)
In the meantime, hang tight. It’s bound to be a bit bumpy before I figure this all out, so please bear with me and thanks for your patience.

New Blog/Old Blog
July 20, 2007 on 5:14 pm | In Admin News | No CommentsThis is the dividing line between new content and my old blog from Blogger. Blogger ate my blog and won’t let me import things in their entirety, so I’m going to be cutting/pasting what little I can from the last few weeks as best I can. I don’t know if this will work. I don’t know if the images will come through or if the do, if they’ll stay, since they’re still hosted on Blogger.
Unfortunately, I can’t transport over any of the comments since I’m doing this by hand. All in all, this is a big mess. Thanks for bearing with me while I figure it out.
SoA: Michael Bookmarks
July 20, 2007 on 1:54 pm | In Books, Jit'Suku Chronicles | No Comments
Here it is… the new Sons of Amber: Michael bookmark. Well, at least the front of it. The back of this particular bookmark is black and white, with a little blurb about the book, I think. Actually, I don’t quite remember what’s supposed to go on the back. Guess, I’ll find out when they show up. They’ve been ordered and now all I have to do is wait (im)patiently for the box to show up on my doorstep.
I’ve also just ordered some bookmarks for my September ebook release, Wings of Change (in the I Dream of Dragons anthology from Samhain Publishing). I’ll post them in a little bit, for your delectation. In the meantime, what do you think of this one?
Man vs. Karioke
July 19, 2007 on 1:59 pm | In Just For Fun, Video | No CommentsYou all know I like that show Man vs. Wild on The Discovery Channel, right? Well, I was surfing around YouTube looking for clips that would explain the show to my Aussie friend and came upon this…
Here’s the link (because I can’t get the embedding thing to work) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxvqPcS2yXY
…the rough, rugged star of the show himself, Bear Grylls, singing the Disney song, “Bear Necessities.” ROTFLMAO!!! It’s nice to know even such a bad-ass guy can still be a bit of a goof. Bravo, Bear!
Fair Folk
July 17, 2007 on 2:26 pm | In Dragon Knights | No Comments
Did our ancestors call these mythological creatures “fair” because they were beautiful or because our ancestors were begging them to be fair in their dealings? That’s kind of a tricky question that popped up while I was doing some research for my next Dragon Knights novel. Perhaps I’m sheltered, but I always thought the term “Fair Folk” was simply another name for elves, fairies, and the like. I thought it had something to do with their reputed beauty, or maybe their complexion - which might be a holdover from Tolkein’s elves in my mind.
I’ve come to find that the term might actually be a bit more sinister in nature than I believed. By naming them “fair,” perhaps our ancestors were employing a bit of wishful thinking. They hoped calling them “fair” would make them deal fairly with the human population. There are so many legends about changling babies and fey folk playing tricks on humanity, this explanation of the bears some thought.
Still, I think I’d rather live in my little Polyanna world and believe the word “fair” refers to their coloring and/or countenance. In my books, at least, that’s the way I’m going to take it. You heard it here first - and it’s something of a spoiler - the next Dragon Knights novel, FireDrake, will feature a race of magical warriors known as the Fair Folk. Mine will be easy on the eyes and lethal - a fascinating combination. As to how they deal with humanity? Whether it’s “fair” or not, remains to be seen…
No Rest for the Wicked
July 16, 2007 on 2:27 pm | In Jit'Suku Chronicles, Resonance Mates, Writing | No CommentsOne is the deleted prologue of Hara’s Legacy that I’m calling “The O’Hara Wedding,” and the other is a short piece that describes “A Day in the Life of Ezekiel” tying into my ongoing Sons of Amber series. I’ve been cleaning up the wedding scene and will be sending it to ARe shortly. I think it’s going to be used in their newsletter and I’ll link to it if I can’t post it direclty on my site as soon as they put it out. I know the Sons of Amber piece will be out in August. The O’Hara piece might be out later this month, but I’m not sure on the exact timing just yet.
I’m also still working on a partial I want to send out and edits on another piece, so there’s plenty to keep me busy. I like that feeling. There’s nothing worse than having nothing to do. So here’s to a busy week! Hope it’s a great one for you too!
