Good News for Print Readers & Dragon Fans!

It looks like my book, Prince of Spies, has been moved up on the print schedule so that it will be released in print on September 25 (instead of late December). I’m working on the galley now, so I haven’t been around much, but if I can get it done in time, it’ll be out in print two months earlier! In time for me to be able to sign copies of it at the NJ RWA Conference in October. Yay!

Oh, and as a special bonus, I’m putting the lyrics to the song Riki sings in the tavern at the end of the book. “The Siren” is actually a song I wrote a few years ago and I think it works pretty well as a poem too, so you can get an idea of the kind of reaction she provokes in the tavern. ;-)
I’m off to do more proofing! — B.

Sons of Amber: Michael Cover

Here’s my latest effort at cover art. This will be for the sequel to Ezekiel, the next in the Sons of Amber series - Michael - coming in August from Phaze.

Here’s a little bit about the story:

Michael is a Dominant Son of Amber, commandant of the human fighting forces and in charge of Atlantia Station. When he learns a smuggling ring is kidnapping human women and transporting them to the jit’suku galaxy, he goes undercover with his executive officer to uncover the rats in their own kitchen. But playing the role of submissive female is something Leah, the competant XO, isn’t sure she can do. Michael proves she not only can, but will enjoy the Dominant games he plays so well for benefit of the smugglers they must convince.

Now about the art (if you’re intested in the process):

I used DAZ Studio and posed my characters in the scene, but had to do quite a bit of post-work, taking the characters out of the scene and rendering each separately. I then put them back together and placed the cool red/orange star field outside the windows. I used the same font styles that were on the Ezekiel cover so as to make them look like they belonged together. They’re a little bright, but when the cover gets down to small sizes - as happens all the time on the internet - you can still read them, which is a good thing. LOL.

I’m pleased with the way this came out. It depicts a scene in the latter part of the story when they’re back on board one of their own transport ships and back in uniform. Things aren’t completely settled, so there’s a bit of angst on both their faces. She’s sending him off to battle and is going off to trap a traitor herself, so they’re both going into danger. I hope some of that emotion comes through when you look at the image. I’m still very much a novice with digital art, but I really enjoy giving life to some of the scenes in my mind this way. Hope you like it too!

TT: Favorite Fantasy/Paranormal TV Shows

Thirteen Fantasy/Paranormal TV Shows
This list is some of my favorite fantasy/paranormal TV shows. Not an all-inclusive list and in no particular order. I’m sure I missed a few, so feel free to add yours in the comments!

  1. Highlander - an excellent extension of a sometimes questionable movie franchise. Loved this series!
  2. Xena - She kicks ASS! Who wouldn’t want to be her?
  3. Hercules - Kevin Sorbo and assorted hot guys with rippling muscles. Yum.
  4. Missing - Who doesn’t love a psychic FBI agent who dresses like a hipster?
  5. The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne - Steampunk with Michael Praed. Mmmmmm.
  6. Robin of Sherwood - Michael Praed and Jason Connery. (Yep - Sean Connery’s son.) Yowza! I also loved the connection to Druid legends and the mystical take on the Robin Hood legend. Very creative and great writing, casting and musical score (by Clannad).
  7. Forever Knight - LOVED this show when I was in grad school! Vampire cops from Canada. LOL
  8. Kung Fu: The Legend Continues - Kane’s son grew up to be a hottie! So, um, the actor who played Peter Kane was also in Silk Stalkings, the Vin Diesel movie The Pacifier (which I loved!), and did the (super sexy Cajun) voice of Gambit on the X-Men cartoon.
  9. Raven - a very cool, mystical martial arts show that didn’t last too long on CBS. Lee Majors was in it as a super-annoying con man, sidekick character named Ski. But the hero was incredibly hot and mostly shirtless, doing martial arts moves on the beach in Hawaii. Jeffrey Meek was his name, I believe. Very cool show! (If anyone knows where I can lay my hands on DVD’s of this, please let me know!)
  10. Dark Justice - another favorite from grad school. It featured a Robin Hood-like vigilante judge who rode a Harley. By day he’s a buttoned up judge who follows the letter of the law. By night, he’s got a band of merry con men who entrap the criminals that escape the system and serve up their own brand of justice. A lawyer’s version of Robin Hood. LOL!
  11. Sabrina The Teenage Witch - okay, I admit to stopping on this show when channel surfing all too often, but it’s so cute! I love the sarcastic talking cat. ;-)
  12. Charmed - I watched a lot more of this when it first started, but got a little tired of the story line. Demons aren’t my thing. Sorry. (Which is why Buffy/Angel isn’t on my top list. I liked it as far as it went, but when it became a soap opera, I tuned out. Actually, the Buffy movie was hilarious, but the TV show started to take itself a little too seriously for me. Whatever.)
  13. Early Edition - I loved that cat! LOL. And the star of this show had that Jimmy Stewart presence. Sort of the all-American good guy. It was a clever show that entertained with an often charming twist.
